Reality, meet expectations.

Product management coaching is guidance that helps you develop your craft and grow your career. Unlike books or certifications, which can be generic and high-level, coaching focuses on you. It enables you to overcome the unique challenges of your environment and achieve your vision of success.

Why coaching matters

As interest in product management has surged over the past decade, a tide of resources – from books to bootcamps and certifications – has risen with it. While many professionals find these resources educational, they also find them limited and unable to achieve the results they want. Aspiring product managers discover that recruiters just don’t care about the certification they spent thousands of dollars on. Current product managers find that workshops are too general or don’t account for the unique challenges of their environment.

Having a product coach is like the difference between watching an exercise video on YouTube and having a personal trainer who understands your personal goals and can correct your form in the moment. Product management is the subject of our work together, but at its core is you. My mission is to enable your growth by helping you understand what you want out of a career in product, identifying the internal and external challenges in your way, and creating a plan to address them. By investing in yourself, rather than a generic course, you’re committing to a more foundational shift in perspective that will do more than teach you new skills – it will help transform your career.

  • Working with you has taught me a lot about product, but I've also learned a lot about myself and how I approach situations, too. Both have really helped my career.

    P.N. (Product Manager, Growth-stage Startup)

  • With every question I had or problem I faced, Stef has always responded with an impressive perceptive of the situation, providing advice with empathy and kindness. He is an excellent communicator and extremely well-versed in modern product practices, especially in product strategy.

  • Working with Stef was like having a Secret Decoder Ring to translate my background and experience into a narrative a hiring manager wanted to hear!

    – C.W. (Senior Product Manager)

  • Stef is an excellent mentor. He helped me identify my weak points and prepare for interviews. He also provided me with great resources.

Typical engagements

Most of my clients are product managers with 1-5 years of experience looking to build a strong foundation for their career in product. I also enjoy helping aspiring product managers – whether recent graduates or established professionals – learn how to "think like a product manager" and transition into the role.

While I coach through all aspects of the product management career and product development lifecycle, here are some of the more common items I help with:

  • Defining and socializing product strategy

  • Developing and applying user research techniques, especially around new product or feature validation

  • Conducting competitive and market analyses

  • Improving your ability to set, track, and communicate KPIs

  • Honing a structured approach to prioritization and collaboration

  • Building solid, cross-functional relationships with design, engineering, and other internal teams like sales or customer success

  • Developing the technical knowledge required for product management

  • Becoming an excellent verbal and written communicator

  • Gaining a holistic understanding of your skills as a product manager as well as discovering your product style and values

  • Working in non-ideal environments (e.g., difficult manager or stakeholders, low resourcing)

Coaching package

I structure my coaching to offer various types of support for an overall holistic approach:

  • A skills assessment and targeted growth plan every three months

  • Two 55-minute coaching sessions per month, conducted remotely over your choice of Zoom or phone

  • Email support in between sessions to help with issues as they arise

  • Access to exclusive resources and exercises, as needed

Currently, I require a three-month minimum commitment: this time allows us to get to know each other and address root causes rather than just surface issues. After the three-month period, you can extend our engagement on a month-to-month basis.

Often, your company will pay for coaching or allow you to use a learning and development budget to pay for coaching. I’m always happy to work with you or your company to finalize payment.
